Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are the last adult teeth to come through, generally between the ages of 17 and 21.
As most people don’t have enough space in the back of their jaw, wisdom teeth often only partially grow or grow crooked which puts pressure on your other teeth.
Impacted wisdom teeth cause crowding and damage to neighbouring teeth often leading to pain, swelling and sometimes infections.
Impacted wisdom teeth will cause sporadic pain and can lead to:
- Swollen and irritated gums specifically along the back of your mouth
- Difficulty and pain when opening your mouth
- Pain when chewing or biting
While the pain may subside, it will usually reoccur later.
As your wisdom teeth continue to grow they will begin to push your other teeth forward causing misalignments and potentially cause ulcers.
Sometimes your wisdom teeth may not cause pain and you may have enough room for your wisdom teeth to fully erupt, if this is the case we will allow the tooth to continue to grow and continue to monitor. If it is impacting your other teeth we will recommend an extraction.
